As someone else pointed out there was a reasonable (soft) tofu salad, if you knew to ask (the organisers realised part way through the evening that they'd not told people enough about the food options and tried to go around telling people -- possibly you'd left by then).

However I did have to ask if it was tofu or cheese... to determine if it was safe to eat. Which required the serving staff asking the chef. Both times I asked for one.

So as a suggestion for future LCAs: Open Source Food. Even just a (complete!) list of ingredients would be awesome (build instructions for much food is #insert $obvious_preparation_method :-) )[0]

[0] To answer the obvious now: Yes, sometimes there are staff you can ask. But usually they don't know *precisely* what is in it. Often the best they can say is, eg "we know it's gluten free" or "we know it is vegetarian", which is tricky to trust without knowing what *is* in it (oversights are easy with dairy/gluten/fish sauce/...), and also not particularly helpful if gluten/meat/fish/whatever is not the only thing you're trying to avoid...
